WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY?

Modern hypnosis techniques are scientific and safe, and are used for specific issues or concerns. The advanced modalities of today, such as rapid induction and rapid emergence, far surpass what was used 50, 40, or even 10 years ago.

When seeing professional hypnotherapists, there is a general guideline that four sessions are needed to resolve an issue, and the results will often last the client’s entire lifetime. More sessions will be needed for some clients and for some problems.

It takes time to change your life and your way of thinking, and usually this cannot be accomplished overnight. People can also learn how to use self-hypnosis, and although not complicated, it does require time and consistent effort in the beginning to get the hang of it. The best way to use self-hypnosis is with a relaxed attitude - slow and steady wins the race. These results can, and often do, last the rest of your life.

THE MYTHS OF HYPNOTHERAPY

Most modern hypnotherapists do not use swinging watch fobs.  But if they do use something similar for a particular client, it can be very effective.

Hypnotherapy for serious issues is not the same as that used on a performance stage with an audience, because not only is the stage not a place to address personal issues, but different techniques and levels of hypnotism are employed in private sessions.

A professional hypnotherapist does not have you bark like a dog. A Certified Master Hypnotherapist is a trained professional who suggests positive thoughts and beliefs to your subconscious mind.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Hypnosis works by changing the thoughts, ideas, and beliefs in the subconscious mind, which then changes our conscious mind, and can impact our lives in very positive ways. It is actually very simple to understand. And more importantly, it is very simple to implement. It is a process of using highly suggestive techniques.

The client remains conscious at all times, although in a deeper and more relaxed state of awareness to absorb the healing suggestions.

WHAT CAN IT DO FOR YOU?

Hypnotherapy has helped people with almost any issue. According to Mayo Clinic, major benefits have been achieved in helping patients with stress, anxiety, pain control, cancer, childbirth, headaches, hot flashes, and mental and emotional health conditions.

Hypnosis has been used in helping people to stop smoking, drug addictions, overcome phobias, and improve their relationships. These and more can be added to the list.

THE STEPS OF HYPNOSIS

In order to better understand how hypnosis works, the following steps can be practiced by you to learn the benefits and techniques of hypnotherapy.

The following steps are similar to what are used in an in-person session with a Master Hypnotherapist.

You can review these steps and use them yourself to teach you how hypnotherapy works.

1) Relaxation. Relaxing the body and mind are essential and are done simultaneously. Isn’t it true that it is hard to relax the body when you are worried, agitated, frustrated, or sad? Conversely, you cannot relax the mind when your body is tired, tense, aching, or in pain. Practicing modern self-hypnosis will help you to accomplish relaxation of both the body and mind. This will include breathing techniques, being in an environment that is quiet, and making sure you are very comfortable.

2) Induction. These modern induction techniques will include counting of breaths, counting numbers forwards and backwards, imagination, and going ‘deeper down’ into hypnosis.

The word induction, as used in hypnosis, is the result (noun) of inducting (verb), taking someone “into” something or a certain state of mind. Induction in the common term is used when someone is inducted into an organization, such as the Hall of Fame or a social organization. In hypnosis, it is used to take the client into an inner state of relaxation and focus. It is a nice word to use as you think about taking, or inducting yourself, into self-hypnosis.

3) Imagine a journey. After induction, you will take yourself on a journey of choices. For the example of weight control, you will find yourself in a grocery store with choices of food aisles. You will affirm that you are making the right choice and will be proud of your choices.

This puts you more in control of your mind and your future. Once you are on a journey of choices, you begin to imagine a story. For example, if you wish to lose weight, you see two aisles in the grocery store. One is full of junk food, fast food, and high-calorie food, and you suddenly find it all distasteful. The other aisle has fruits and vegetables, and they look very delicious and nutritious, and are some of the brightest, most colorful foods you have ever seen in your life. These are the kind of stories to use in your imagination.

Another useful storyline is that you are on a beautiful nature path by a lake. As you round the corner of your path, you see a place to sit and rest that is peaceful and happy. You go there, sit, and with eyes closed, you begin to feel the power of Super You. At this point, as you feel your oneness with nature and beauty, you also know that you can release both the past and present dangers in your psyche.

4) Direct Suggestion. After you are in deep hypnosis, you will be ready and eager to instill positive thoughts and suggestions into your subconscious mind. This is the time for Direct Suggestion. This will include giving yourself suggestions relating to your goals. Direct Suggestion is speaking directly to your subconscious mind while under hypnosis.

This is an example of a Direct Suggestion while in hypnosis for weight control. “I always choose the right foods. I choose to eat my meals at the correct times of the day for me. I no longer need sugar to sustain my body. I look forward to reaching my desired weight goal soon.”

5) Emerging from hypnosis. This includes a process of slowly counting as you emerge out of hypnosis, number by number. Be sure to give yourself time to adjust back to the present. When you reach ten, you will be fully emerged from hypnosis and feel great. After practicing these self-hypnosis techniques, you will have a better grasp of how hypnotherapy might help you.

What’s your problem? No matter what it is, hypnotherapy might be the answer you have been looking for.

Charmayne
